After China, What's Next?
But, wait a minute. It seems that not all of us worry about it. Or, people may be worried but not too much. A bit? I have no idea. Is it because people are entirely tired of the situation?
What worries me a lot finally happened. Not only me, but perhaps more people out there feel the same way. Officially, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia span beyond mainland China as the origin of the virus.
According to the last data released by the China National Health Commission as of Saturday, July 18, 2020, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases was 83, 644, while Indonesia reached 84,882 at the same time. The death toll in Indonesia was 4,016.
Meanwhile, health ministry disease control and prevention director-general Achmad Yurianto, who is also the spokesperson of the national COVID-19 Task Force, Sunday (July 19, 2020), announced 127 more COVID-19 deaths, putting Indonesia's death toll at 4,143.
But, wait a minute. It seems that not everyone worries about it. Or, people may be worried but not too much. A bit? I have no idea. Is it as a result of people are thoroughly tired of the situation? Run out of energy? Coordination is increasingly difficult. This enormous plague did not produce any breakthroughs.
Fear of Famine
Humans are more afraid of starving to death than death because of COVID-19. Fear of famine has caused people to start ignoring the safety protocols released by the World Health Organization, such as wearing masks, washing hands as often as possible, and applying physical and social distancing while doing their activities. People even considered the new normal is the old normal. The worst thing was some people assumed that COVID-19 was untrue.
Indonesia and the United States of America have some similarities in responding to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Many of its citizens do not pay significant attention to the spread of the virus and follow the safety protocol. As a result, the number of infected people is increasing day by day.
As of today, (July 20, 2020), there are 14, 646,905 confirmed cases around the globe, 608,987 deaths, and 8,737,852 recovered. Undoubtedly, the number of sufferers will continue to grow.
At the current time, the U.S still tops the number while Indonesia is in the 25th position (China is on the 26th). Indonesia has just surpassed China. After China, what's next? Will Indonesia overtake the U.S? OMG!!!
Please stay healthy by following all health protocols released by the WHO and your government.
